Central Park Self-Guided Walking Tour: Explore Hidden Gems and Must-See Landmarks in NYC

Central Park: A Self-Guided Walk Through NYC’s Backyard

Central Park isn’t part of our guided route, but it’s a short walk from where our Midtown tour starts — about 15 minutes north of Bryant Park — so a lot of our guests add it on the same day.

If you’re exploring on your own, a good loop takes in Bethesda Terrace (the grand staircase and fountain that shows up in half the movies set in New York), Bow Bridge just north of it, and The Mall, a tree-lined promenade lined with statues of famous writers. For a quieter pace, The Ramble is a wooded, winding section of the park that feels far removed from the city, good for birdwatching or just a break from the crowds.

Plan on 2 to 3 hours if you want to see the highlights without rushing, longer if you want to picnic on the Great Lawn or Sheep Meadow along the way. Wear comfortable shoes — the park is bigger than it looks on a map.

Start your day with us first. Our Midtown NYC Tour begins at Bryant Park and covers the NY Public Library, Grand Central, Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick’s, Radio City, and Times Square — pay-what-you-wish, about 2 to 2.5 hours. It’s an easy walk from the end of our route up to the park if you want to keep exploring.
